             abstract = "The expansion of modern agriculture in recent years has resulted 
                         in significant changes in Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) in the 
                         Mato Grosso state, Brazil. The landscape dominated by agricultural 
                         activities became a dynamic mosaic composed of different land use 
                         types. Thus, the objective of this study is to characterize the 
                         land cover changes due to agricultural activities using images 
                         acquired along 20 years in a study area located in the North of 
                         Mato Grosso. TM/Landsat-5 images from 1990 to 2010 were classified 
                         and analyzed. The classification results indicated a reduction in 
                         the Cerrado area from 73.2% (11,699.3 km2) to 46.3% (7,408.9 km2) 
                         in only twenty years, which was converted into agro-pastoral land 
                         covers.",
